Authorized use and data handling
AzSQL Script Decryptor recovers source code from encrypted database objects. That capability is only appropriate for people who are entitled to see that code.
Who may use the product
AzSQL Script Decryptor is intended for database owners and authorized database administrators. You may use it when at least one of the following is true:
- You own the SQL Server instance and the databases on it.
- You are employed or contracted to administer the instance, and your role includes access to database source code.
- The database owner has given you explicit written permission to recover the relevant objects.
What it must not be used for
- Accessing databases, servers or systems you do not own and are not authorized to administer.
- Recovering code from a commercial third-party application in order to copy, redistribute or reverse engineer it, unless the licence for that application permits it.
- Bypassing access controls, licence terms or contractual restrictions.
- Any use that is unlawful in your jurisdiction.
If you are unsure whether you are entitled to recover a particular object, ask the database owner in writing before you start.
Permissions the tool requires
The SQL Server login you connect with must belong to the sysadmin server role. This is a high level of privilege, and it is required because encrypted module text is not exposed through ordinary metadata functions such as OBJECT_DEFINITION or sys.sql_modules.
On SQL Server 2005 and later, some instances also require the Dedicated Administrator Connection (DAC). Enabling remote DAC access is an administrative change to the server; apply it only with change approval and revert it when you are finished. The FAQ describes the configuration.
We recommend connecting with a dedicated administrative login for the duration of the recovery, rather than a shared or day-to-day account.
How the application handles your data
AzSQL Script Decryptor is a Windows desktop application. It runs on your workstation and connects directly to the SQL Server instance you specify, using the credentials you provide. Database definitions are processed locally on that machine.
The website itself is a static site. It does not set cookies, run third-party analytics or collect database content. If you email support, we receive only the information you choose to send; please do not send credentials, connection strings or database contents.
Orders are processed by our payment provider on a hosted checkout. See the privacy policy for details.
